The fact that using optifine boosts performance is due to the facts that optifine turns down a lot of aspects which cannot be toggled via the minecraft settings in vanilla. Optifine is not improving the game magically but is making compromises on things to get more fps.

The only thing which should be done is a rewrite of the engine to make (jokes coming) minecraft use more threads on good core count cpus and use more gpu, this will boost performance within the limits a game running in a java vm offers

i really think that mojang should imploment some of the optifine features to their game,i mean with optifine and the render scale at 32 the game runs above 120 fps but with vanilla it drops on 20 FPS,THAT IS RIDICULOUS

I have rtx 3060ti with ryzen 7 3700x and in the 1.18 sanpshot with 16 chunks i can't get above 100fps there a problem in bedrock edition with ray-traycing and 32 chunks i run over 150fps. Pls mojang optimise your game

Yeah maybe a rewrite of the code should be done after 10+ years for java edition, but this will cause older versions to be lost or bugged like the alpha and beta versions that are currently corrupted because of the many java updates. I think that an option in the launcher would be great, like a tick that enables the new codes that allow you to play the newer versions with better performances, but to play the older versions you have to disable this option.

A wonderful thing would be also an other tick that allows you to play with the proper codes the alpha and beta versions with no bugs (this one can be done with multimc and that's almost impossible that mojang will do this)

Okay. I think I'm not the only one that when playing minecraft in these latest versions, the performance of the game has decreased a lot, lag is very annoying and more for players who do not have a good device or pc to play it well, the game needs a reinvention of the system regarding performance and if I would wait longer for it, I would. I hope this reaches the developers and that they take it into account this is necessary..

We need a performance update, look how it is possible that Universe Sanbox 2 a simulator of the Universe runs smoothly at 60 fps and minecraft at 16 chunks at 25 fps maximum 50 we seriously need this please make the Performance Update

I agree, since 1.13 I only saw constant decline in performance. I now hesitate to even start the game knowing it takes good 5 minutes to get into the world and then some to stop stuttering somewhat. And yes i use ssd, and pc is i3 6100, gt 1030.

I agree, if Mojang could focus on performance for just like one update and spend a decent amount of time on it they could increase the performance significantly and this could potentially help with future updates. Nothing to big just improving performance.

Just look at sodium, it works wonders. 32 chunk render vanilla: 23 avr. fps maybe at best. But sodium just magically pulls out over 120 avr. fps

    Render distance 11 chunks.

    gtx1070 and 6700k can barely manage 70FPS.

(I used to play 10 chunks on hd520 and i5 3210m laptop cpu in 1.12)

They seriously need a team dedicated to this. Performance needs improvment.

The modders have already done this. Minecraft needs to do the same and improve the performance in Java!

Minecraft needs to implement Vulkan and it needs to properly work with multi core CPUs. This would *EXPONENTIALLY* improve performance. Nvidium *kind of* does this and it makes it run like 100x faster. 80 chunks at 400fps on good hardware.

Java Edition should be updated to utilize SSE4 extensions on the CPU side, up from the current SSE2 minimum. This would enable some easy and safe performance improvements
