The new Iron ore texture is a controversial topic. Personally i like it but i think it's better suited towards redstone instead of iron.
I suspect most of the general dislike of the texture is that it doesn't fit most people's perception of what iron looks like which more amorphous and round more like the new iron texture whereas when we think of redstone we think of long glowing streaks of dust.
I also believe the streaky redstone ore would be more useful in building then the iron one as it would look like red paint splatter, gouges, or scratches in a wall which pairs with similar uses for the redstone dust itself.
