Lightning strikes and changes ground blocks

Since we are getting copper and there are going to be uses for a lightning rod, why not allow the lightning rod to actually do some things? like maybe charge something to harness the electric charge or, more importantly affect the environment like in real life! when lightning strikes the ground it creates Fulgurite, and when it strikes sand it makes glass! Either through a natural strike or an intentional strike through the use of a lightning rod this would be really cool to dig out this glass sculpture under the sand and admire how beautiful it is!
