Of all the mobs in Minecraft, the Creeper is perhaps the most iconic, but it has absolutely no variation, making encounters with Creepers pretty repetitive. Additionally, the grimstone layer is supposed to be a dangerous layer of the Overworld, but it's no more dangerous than your average sundown on the surface. To fix these two issues, all we need is a Creeper variant that spawns below y=0.
This Grim Creeper would be dark gray in color (to help it blend in with Grimstone) and would replace 80% of creepers below y=0. A Grim Creeper has a slightly longer fuse than your average Creeper (36 ticks instead of 30), but has a larger blast radius to help it plow through grimstone (maybe 4 blast radius). Explosions from Grim Creepers also disable shields for 5 seconds, so you'll have to be more cautious when facing a couple of these. Defeating one will reward you with double the gunpowder of a normal Creeper.
And for the final touch, modified hurt and fuse sounds to make the Grim Creeper sound more menacing and stone-like.
