A remnant from an ancient civilization, the Grimstone Magnet would be a new, rare block that would attract metallic items, blocks (dropped), and even mobs (Iron Golems). This new block would naturally generate beneath y level -32 and would spawn like ancient debris in the Nether. The magnetic pull of this block would be strengthened depending upon how much the player repaired it in the smithing table using other Grimstone Magnets; there would be four levels of magnetic strength. The stronger the magnet, the further the magnetic reach: starting magnetism (1) would be 3 blocks, (2) 4.5 blocks, (3) 6.5 blocks, and (4) 8 blocks. The magnetism could also pull metallic items and blocks upwards and hold them in the air; to the sides and underneath of the block. This block could be useful for farms, builds,
and retrieving fallen metallic objects. Note: the magnetic pull on the Iron Golem and any other future metallic mob would only slow them down except for the max upgraded Grimstone Magnet which would completely hold the metallic mobs down.
This is just a rough idea, but I think it would add some more incentive for digging close to the deepest depths and dodge the Warden and other creatures. Plus, vibrations have been added to Minecraft, so why not magnetism?
