Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Yes, improved furnace minecarts to build railroads would be wonderful

Have minecarts travel faster than elytras making places you travel to often better with a minecart, but when exploring an elytra is better because you won't need to set it up

I think that rails have so much more potential in Minecraft.

Powered rails are usually too expensive in the early game to make much use of, and the furnace minecart is too unreliable to use. This results in seldom use of rails.

I think powered rails are fine how they are now. However the furnace minecart needs some serious TLC. It is used so infrequently that it doesn't even exist in the Bedrock Edition. For one it is too slow a means of transport and as it exists now, the furnace minecart travels in the direction opposite which the player places the fuel in. This means if I am sitting in a minecart and turn around to fuel a furnace minecart, it takes off in the other direction!

For the speed issue, it could be made so different fuels affect the speed of the minecart and I have a couple ideas for the other problem. One could be to add a UI to the furnace minecart where the fuel is placed inside and there is a button to swap directions, or instead of a UI a player would click on it with an open hand to swap directions with some visual indicator on the entity.

Just these fixes alone I think would make rails a lot more viable early game. But I think that there is so much more that could flesh out rails too. Considering it is a game where mining is central, minecarts should play a bigger role. Just a couple other ideas would be the ability to couple minecarts together and to add a new rail type which seamlessly connects 3-4 rails and intuitively switches directions with redstone.

Yes! Powered rails are great for farms, but for long distance travel they are very expensive. If you don't have an elytra, long distance travel can be very time consuming. Furnace minecarts traveling a little slower than the elytra, perhaps the 2nd or third fastest means of travel in the game, would be a game changer, especially if you could hook minecarts together with a chain.
