Seeing as large dark caves are to be added in 1.17, torch placement has become much more important to keep mobs from spawning around explored areas. Crafting torches, however, requires sticks. Sticks are not easily replenishable in cave systems themselves. Getting wood underground can be rather difficult as the only way to do so currently is by finding a mineshaft. I'd suggest either adding a a light source that is easily craft-able in a 2x2 crafting grid consisting only out of materials found in caves (perhaps a drop from the new glow lichen), or changing the crafting recipe for lanterns to use a piece of coal/charcoal instead of a torch in the middle. While the first option would warrant a new block to be added, the second could be an easy alternative. The second does, however, require a change to the soul-fire lantern as well (namely using soul sand/soul soil instead of a soul-fire torch) to make the lantern recipes more consistent.
