Hi there! This is my suggestion for an Enderman rework that maintains their visual of picking up blocks, without disturbing the terrain in any form while still being interesting.
Let's be honest, Endermen placing random dirt, sand, and whathaveyou in our bases is super annoying. Sure, we COULD make the ceilings lower, but low ceilings make me feel a bit claustrophobic and huge builds are obviously way cooler to look at. So, here's my thought as a replacement for their current ability to move blocks.
Endermen that spawn in the Overworld and the Nether (I'll get back to this as why it's important) have a chance to spawn holding one of the many ores in the game, which upon death they will ALWAYS drop. Here's the order of ore rarity that they can hold that I've come up with:
Tier 1 - Copper & Coal
Tier 2 - Iron
Tier 3 - Lapis & Redstone
Tier 4 - Gold (These guys can spawn in the overworld, this is only type that will appear in the Nether!)
Tier 4 Special (Only in mountain biomes!) - Emerald
Tier 5 - Diamond
Something very important to note is that Endermen that spawn in The End cannot spawn with ores in their hands, to prevent easy farming of these materials.
On top of that, Endermen will actually gain an advantage from the blocks they carry! Simply put, these will act as swords do, having them deal more damage. Tier 1 would be the equivalent of giving them a wood sword, 2 would be a stone sword, 3 and 4 would be iron, and 4 would be like a diamond sword. Thoughts?
