In 1.17, imagine you are strip-mining, and suddenly you find some more stone. But, this one does not look like the others. It's basalt! Mining through the basalt, you come out on the edge of an underground cliff, right above a lake of hot, sizzling, lava. The Lava Grottos appeared to have once been full of life. But with hot magma taking over the cave, the only signs of life are dead coral and bone blocks scattered across the cave. There appears to have once been a waterfall, but instead of water, it is made of obsidian. Basalt is the main rock above this cave, and here, Diamonds generate more, as well as igneous rocks like Granite, Diorite, and Andestite. Basalt Pillars like the ones seen in the nether support the roof of this cave, and there is no glow lichen to be found, all of it was burnt by the lava. Magma Cubes as well as other overworld monsters will spawn in this biome (except for strays,) keeping adventurers on their toes. This cave biome is surely one of the most feared ones, but also the most rewarding: shiny diamonds can be found at about the same rate as gold in a normal cave. The only problem is getting the diamonds out in your inventory and not in a Magma Cube's stomach.
