While we have enchantments, I think there should be something to elevate gear to become unique, truly yours, like the naming system but a little more personal. This should apply to full sets of gear. Perhaps you find one piece of gear, then you have to go on a treasure hunt looking for others, so when you get the full set, you have attributes. This is one attribute given to one full set of armour, so wearing just the chesplate means nothing.
An idea for an attribute could be arrow proof, where arrows don't do anything. These do not involve enchantments, so you can still enchant them. Another idea could be increased manoeuvrability and speed whilst using an elytra, as well as letting you put an elytra with your chestplate. You could become immune to cacti, or never drown again. These should be incredibly specific attributes that are overpowered in one way or another, to counterbalance how hard it is to find them.
They should be used as fragments, to put on armour, instead of the player simply randomly finding a Netherite Chestplate by random, and so that players won't toss out a Prot 4 Netherite set just for immunity to fire.
While this last part is considered the structure, I'd say it should be in a dungeon type thing with a puzzle to get through (or the players have to mine through obsidian), so it's difficulty but worth it. It shouldn't be given in a full set, and should have a map to the next one.
