Slime chunks have always been a somewhat obtuse feature of the game, and seeing Slimes underground is an extremely rare sight. Ever since Slimes were added to swamps, players have primarily used swamps to find Slimes, making Slime chunks less useful. It wouldn't surprise me at this point to find out that most new players are unaware that Slimes can spawn underground. With the update to caves happening, there's an opportunity to replace Slime chunks with something that's easier for players to discover for themselves and which gives Slimes a greater underground presence. What if a new cave biome was given the Slime-spawning property of Slime chunks, so players would more easily be able to identify where Slimes can be found?
This problem may already be fixed by the new cave generation, which includes more open areas which would make it easier for Slimes to spawn. I would like to bring Slimes to the attention of the developers, so they might keep an eye out while creating the update.
