I was thinking of some potential uses for amethyst, and I thought about how crystals are seen as purifying in some ways. Perhaps this would be bad to promote in Minecraft, but I think having splash potions that can purify soul sand into normal sand would both add another use for amethysts, as well as make normal sand renewable without wandering traders. To be clear to the player how it is used, perhaps a soul torch would be needed in a recipe for a special magical amethyst? I don't entirely know how it would work if it wasn't a splash potion. Maybe it could cure you of more magical affects, leaving stuff like poison to milk, but purification could be used against mining fatigue and blindness, or maybe it could just dilute all negative potion effects. I just really think purifying soul sand into normal sand would be neat. There could even be a chance that ghasts or phantoms pop out of the soul sand / soil when you purify it!
So to clarify, I think a general purification potion would be neat, and amethysts need like one ore two more uses in my opinion, not much, but I feel like they barely do anything super useful right now if you aren't into building. Nether quartz can be used for comparators and daylight sensors, for example. It's not just for decoration.
