I would like to see in the future a removal of the random splotches of stone variants (granite, diorite, and andesite) and instead see a system that would have underground regions generate one stone type. you may find a forest with andesite underneath it, a mountain made of diorite, etc. It wouldn't need to be set in tandem with above ground biomes, as biomes with multiple stone types could also be interesting and affect where you want to base.
Just a fun idea I had to help give worlds more variety and encourage exploration
