Blocks on the Player's Back

I think it'd be an amazing idea if we could get an extra "armor" slot (or not even, it could be worn on the chestplate slot) that would give the player an ability to have a block on their back, which would give them an ability to use that item on the go from their inventory. For example, if they wore a furnace, they could cook stuff, if they wore a crafting table, they could use the 3x3 grid etc.
There are some parts to be discussed however:
1. Would the player be able to wear chestplate or elytra with it? I personally think yes, since don't consider the feature should have any drawbacks, since it isn't THIS overpowered. The feature is meant to be a straight convenience, with only drawback being that you can have just one block on your back
I feel like a solution like this would especially solve the inventory issue, since a player could just wear a shulker on their back, while also creating some interesting options for players that prefer the nomadic lifestyle, or just want to explore
