Wheat - should restore health of animals other than horse

We noticed that if a sheep got hit by a creeper, and we give wheat to feed the sheep, it doesn't restore its health back. It was on a boat, one of my friend wanted to just punch the boat to deliver it from it, and because it went so fast they just hit one time the sheep, and because of that the sheep died.

We would find wheat restoring animals health something logic to have, moreover when we can see that splash healing potion actually work on them. This behavior got noticed on cows as well. The wheat should be able to restore health of every animals, not only the horse.
