Amethysts make armor easier to enchant.

Adding amethysts to any armor or tool on a smithing table will have a chance to decrease the enchanting price of that piece of armor or tool. It will also make that tool or piece of armor have purple Text for the item name.

  Rather than decreasing the enchanting price, I would have Amethyst slightly increase the chance for rare enchantments to appear on the armor, tool, or perhaps book that it is applied to. This could be useful for certain armor types, like Diamond, which are less likely to obtain high-level enchants.
