If there was an increased world height, imagine a deeper part of the oceans that only shows up sometimes. Thanks to biomes being able to be stacked on top of each other now, this deep ocean could even have dark water showing a clear (or somewhat blurred I guess thanks to biome blending or whatever it's called) separation between the safe and beautiful ocean and the creepy deep. Glow squids could possibly naturally spawn down there, and there could be even more opportunities for unique ocean mobs that would otherwise feel odd closer to the surface. Octopus like creatures changing color to match naturally spawning gold deposits that become hostile when a daring ocean adventurer gives into their greed and tries to mine the blocks (this would allow for a "real" mob to still be somewhat hostile while adhering to the reasoning why sharks weren't added, but polar bears were). Perhaps, to make travel safer down their, copper could be implemented in some way, maybe a diving helmet or lamp that scares away some of the hostile mobs (they're not used to light) which would also allow players to avoid killing the potentially hostile mobs located in the creepy deep. Possibly some tie in with the deep dark? Adding not only a deeper section of ocean, but the dark water, would be almost an educational opportunity showing the wonders of the earth and her bountiful oceans.
