This suggestion has the potential to enable more complex structures to fit within a smaller area to a point. The idea is as follows: We could create a new block called a Case that looks like a hollow cage that has any constructed structure inside. This will be used to assemble small structures with the aid of a telescope or possibly an added magnifying glass. The crafting recipe will consist of box made of iron bars with possibly scaffolding in the center.
By clicking it with some manner of lens one can zoom in to remove or place small blocks from inventory such as glass blocks, glass panes, redstone lamps, observer blocks, comparators, repeaters, redstone dust, daylight sensors, redstone blocks, redstone torches, noteblocks (As well as the different blocks that can be used to make them produce different sound types), item frames, and finally levers. Small items will be crafted by using some manner of lens on a crafting table. The items can each be scaled down to an 1/8th of a block, but can only be placed inside the case.
The case will be able to receive redstone inputs that go to any internal blocks touching that side and it will be able to give redstone outputs in an equivalent manner. It will be capable of producing sound from any noteblocks inside and will be able to effect and be affected by light passing through it with the structures inside such as glass and daylight sensors.
