At Minecraft live 2020 the Mojang team mentioned new light sources for caves. This could be one of them. Mist or Fog would be a cloud-like entity that appears over cave lakes and submerged caves. To be clear this is not a mob. It would have a slight glow to it and would seem reflective. When boating across cavern lakes you would slow down when in mist. You would also be submerged in the mist which would cause slow suffocation. The way you would obtain mist as an item would be with bottles, similar to dragon's breath. Here are some uses for mist
Uses in fighting mobs/PVP.
- Slows down other entities.
- Could be combined with potions to create a sort of "poison mist". This would also be used to help you by using Regenerating Mist.
- Wards off certain types of mobs such as Pillagers and Endermen.
Uses for building
- Decoration.
- Several bottles of mist could create a thick form of a mist that could be stood on (similar to Scaffolding). This Mist would slowly rise so you would need to ensure to pop the mist to get back down. An alternative to this could be mist balloons which would be made of leather. When carrying a mist balloon in your off-hand you would be given a slow fall and a kind of lunar gravity.
- The mist is very flammable, so you could use it as an ingredient in a new light source.
Other properties
- Mist will freeze in cold.
- The mist would evaporate in the nether.
- Certain translucent blocks would not be able to contain mist.
