Temperature Sensors

    Temperature sensors are an idea for a new redstone block that outputs more power the closer it is to a source of heat. These sources of heat include lava, fire, and magma blocks.
    These sensors can be applied to builds in various ways, such as the player making a fire-control system in order to keep an area from being lit aflame, perhaps using pistons in a ceiling to drop water on the affected blocks, be it in splash bottles or potions, protecting rooms and indoor farms.
    In another manner, perhaps the player lives in a cold biome. If the temperature sensor was able to be flipped to a second, cold-detecting mode, activated from sensing ice or snow, it could be used in cold biomes to keep bodies of water from freezing through an automatic means, or to alert players.
    If Temperature Sensors are to be added in an update, they should be redstone-compatible blocks with power outputs on all sides except for the mode switch, with a heat detector and cold detector mode, and a detection range corresponding with the distance than power can travel in redstone, 15 blocks.

    I think it would be nice if there were natural temperature sensors, although they may work better for seasons. Examples inclue water <-> ice, flowers blooming, etc

    A temperature sensor for redstone is something that the game has been missing for sometime. Sure one can use such things as light and freezing water, however those only work under rather specific conditions and aren't good for sensing even when combined all given in game temperatures much less doing so in any precise manner.
