This block would let item entities fall through, but not mobs/players or falling blocks like sand or gravel. This block would be very useful for automatic and manual farms.
I thought of this idea while trying to figure out how to make a tree farm. I wanted to collect the excess saplings with a simple system. In the end, I created a complicated water system that got most of the saplings. It works, but it took a lot of time, it doesn't get all the saplings and you have to wade through water everywhere you go. With the grate, you could instead build a large platform that you could freely walk on and stay dry on, while the saplings fall strait through the grate into a simple water system. I you still would have to create a water system, but you wouldn't have to make it work around tree stumps, making it way easier to create.
That was just one idea I had for this block. I could see this this being used for so many other things, the uses are limitless. It would be a great block to play around with!
I don't know if a grate would be the best name for it, I could see it being other things. I just thought a grate would fit right in with some of the other blocks of this sort. It would be crafted with some sort of iron configuration in the crafting table. Iron would work really well because of its place in the player progression. But It could also be made of copper and called "Copper Mesh" or something, it would make copper a bit more useful.
This has great potential!
