When every villager dies in your village that can be annoying as you will have to move all of your builds to a new village and re-build everything there so that you can have a village with villagers in it. I think that there should be some "nomad villagers" (the name doesn't really matter) that will move in to your village if there is suitable housing (i.e. walls, roof, torch, bed, door). These villagers will now act as normal villagers and stay in your village. This should be a common event so that villages will never become ghost towns!
Along with this, I think that some kind of thing to prevent "nomad villagers" would be needed so that if players want to, they CAN have a ghost town. Maybe there could be a painting-like block that would make a house open for nomad villagers to move in. I don't know but I think that it is definitely important to have a way to stop nomad villagers.
