I know Mojang said they don't want to add disasters, but in Minecraft there are options for thing that can be toggled on and off, so why not make disasters optional?
In Minecraft Bedrock Edition, there are option such as a starting map and instant respawn that automatically turned off, but can be turned on without enabling cheats, I think they should add disaster and do the same.
If disasters in Minecraft are off by default, then players don't have to worry about disasters messing up their games (like Mojang fears) and if it is toggled on, then it could pop up a warning about what disasters might do, just like the "turn off achievements" warning for turning on cheats. Making disasters able to turn on and off would allow for some interesting gameplay and could allow for some new creations as well.
Lastly, I will call out Mojang for not wanting disasters, they gave lighting as an example, but they are also making the warden, a very dangerous mob that two hit maxed out players. I will also point out that one of the games signature mobs is a walking disaster, the creeper walks up and blows up your builds and can kill you (unless cheats are enabled) so Mojang is clearly fine with having some disasters in their game, so you could add disasters and find a way for players to counter them (lightning rod, crouching, no mob griefing, on/off option) to counter it.
