There is a separate update for 1.17(1.17PVP) in Java Edition

This is a "Private" version of 1.17, which will simply remove its shield and attack speed (cooldown). This update includes all updates from previous releases and current updates. No attack speed (cooldown) means that players can click spam, without a shield, players just need to right click to block-hit the sword of version 1.8 and will reduce damage when block-hit.This update is called "PvP1.17.1" and it is intended for PvPers in servers.
