Add colored tint to armor via amethysts
Many players have been wanting a way to customize and/or color diamond & netherite armor in a similar way to leather. It would be great to be able to have the customizability of leather armor but with the protection of higher tiers. And I think I've come up with a way to incorporate this into the cave update; Now, I came up with this like an hour ago and it's late, so it's not fully fleshed out yet, but I will try and update it later.
I think a lot of us can agree that the amethyst so far does not have much usefulness. So why not kill two birds with one stone? The amethyst could be combined with any dye (or possibly dyes) to create some sort of new item, which would have a color in its NBT data and show a texture to match.
This special item could then be applied to your armor (or possibly even tools) -- through either an anvil or smithing table, either could work. When applied to the armor, it wouldn't directly dye the armour itself - instead, it would add a colored glow to the armor, similar to the enchanting glow. In fact, it could just change the color of the item's enchantment glow. But the glow should be a bit more prominent, instead of just a shimmer, so that the color is visible enough.
Anyways, hope I explained my idea well enough. gonna head to bed now. I might try and make a mock-up design to help explain it.
