Using the Smithing Table to repair Anvils

I bet you in your minecraft worlds have really felt sad when your anvil breaks and you have to spend another 31 iron ingots just to build another. I think there should be an alterative: Using the smithing table should repair the different stages of damaged anvils. I think that 5-8 iron ingots in a smithing table should be enough to repair the anvil by 1 stage; that way you can use the same anvil for a while longer without having to waste your iron on another one.
