Copper cogs

Copper gears would work exactly like redstone, but on walls, they could be crafted with four copper bars and one redstone dust.

Copper cogs would have limitations such as; cogs could not power the block they are placed on/surrounding blocks, cogs can power redstone but cogs can only be powered by levers/buttons, cog could not be placed on the top or bottom of blocks, only on the sides.

  These (essentially gears) could be added along with a rotator block

  indead but could u put in more detail as to what the copper could power and why shouldn't it only be a  building block?

  This idea is underdeveloped. It should weather and oxidize like other copper blocks. The oxidization should affect the speed/signal strength. Fully weathered copper cogs shouldn’t be able to transmit any signal at all. Using an axe, the player should be able to remove the oxidization like any other copper block. Honey combs could keep the cog in a specific state of weathering.
