How terrifying would it be if you were hit with a splash potion and then suddenly everything just went..... quiet. Dead quiet. No sounds whatsoever.
For the duration of the potion, you end up hearing absolutely nothing. No way to know if there's a creeper or a ghast or another player right behind you ready to finish you off.
The Potion of Deafening is a negative potion (that one could weaponise to disadvantage their player in a PVP setting, say). It gives the player the new "Deafness" status effect, during which all sounds in the game are muted. But this potion works not just on players, it works on mobs too. You could throw the Potion of Deafening at the Warden, rendering it completely deaf and unable to find you. If it hits a Sculk sensor, it will also inactivate the Sculk sensor.
This is a pretty powerful potion, so it is quite expensive to brew. You can only find the ingredient in Nether Loot chests (as there isn't enough unique loot in them), or as a rare drop from a Witch. Speaking of Witches, they can also now throw Potions of Deafening at you.
