I am playing on a Mac, 1.16.4, I know, the stigma with it is horrible, but, when serving on a PC and playing on a Mac, you get amazing results. Anyways ...
There are many keystroke/mouse limitations on a MAC that drastically affect Minecraft players that could be solved in Minecraft, if all the not configurable uses of the SHIFT key could be rebound to another key, even if they are all lumped together in a "General Inventory Control" keybind. This would immediately be a work around for MC-121772, even if we have to learn to press another key. But, when used with a keymapping software, this becomes even better, as we can still use the shift key in Minecraft. This would also fix a few other bugs as well.
Or, a much easier solution, would be for the Minecraft Developers to add listeners to detect and convert all HScroll feedback into VScroll output, which is very easy to do in LWJGL3, assuming the rumors are true that this is their library.
Just a thought, but for myself and a few others I know, this would make things much more user friendly.
