Hello, So I know an idea like this has already been suggested, but I am creating this post to add a more in depth idea of how this idea would work in my eyes.
So in each biome, you have the specific textures of grass blocks. When mined with a silk touch pickaxe it just drops the normal texture that you would find in biomes like plains and forests. My idea for this is, when minded it would drop the grass texture that is specific to that biome. For example, "Plains Grass Block" "Dark Forest Grass Block" "Desert Grass Block". When placed, and in inventory, these blocks will look as a grass block would look like in that biome. Gradient blocks would turn into whatever biome it is in (A 50% chance of each biome)
Adding onto this, I feel like it would be interesting to add a certain percentage that the grass will "Die" off when put into a different biome with a different climate. For example, If you were to bring a "Desert Grass Block" into a Snowy Tundra biome, It would either have a certain set chance to die off after 5-10 minutes, Like a 60% chance to die. By die, this means that the Grass Block would switch into a dirt block. Another idea of this, is to not have a chance at all, and depending what biome it is put into it will die after a set amount of time. There would also be multiple gamerule options for this.
Like a gamerule to set the time or chance it would die per biome and a gamerule to decide whether they die at all.
