There are similar ideas but not exactly how I believe they should work. Shields, are made of wood. So it would make sense for a shield to catch arrows, similar to how an arrow would stick into a player or block. For regular arrows (without infinity) if a player was to lower the shield or maybe switch it to main hand, they should get the arrows back. Not all the arrows, as it would realistically make sense for shields to damage arrows beyond use. But some arrows should remain intact. Similar to how wooden shields work in breath of the wild.
Spectral arrows should not be able to be reused and same with potion tipped arrows. This allows room for a new enchantment, sturdy. Sturdy would come in 3 tiers, without the enchantment arrows that hit the shield would have a 20% chance to become useable, Sturdy 1 - 30% chance. Sturdy 2 - 40% Chance. Sturdy 3 - 50% chance.
Another possible enchantment could be impenetrable. Impenetrable would have 1 tier, and would conflict with sturdy, so you could only have one or the other. Impenetrable would prevent arrows (alternate idea is all projectiles) from dealing any durability to the shield, all arrows that would hit the shield would have a 100% guarantee to break and be removed from the battlefield.
Both enchantments have their use in pvp and in singleplayer. Possible nerfs and buffs could be added to make them more balanced.
