Firstly there would be a new form of crafting station, with a gui similar to that of a stonecutter or loom.
Placing any wood plank in the slot would allow you to craft: chests; barrels; ladders; bookshelves; loom; fletching and crafting tables; composters; buttons; (trap)doors; lecterns; and pressure plates in that wood's colours. The chest and jobsites will still be normal if crafted normally.
Placing stone; stone brick+variants; Netherbrick+variants; Prisamarine+; (red)sandstone+; Quartz+; Blackstone+; (polished)Granite, diorite, andesite; tuff and calcite; endstone brick; purpur; and brick would allow you to turn them into most if not all the wood based blocks, (including signs, doors and bookshelves) as well as furnaces, stonecutters, pillars and maybe the stone-based redstone components. (Pistons, droppers)
Like the loom, it would have a design slot. These designs would be block specific, but allow you to, for example, put the design of an acacia door on a warped door, or vice versa. There would be special designs allowing you to put gold, obsidian, moss and cracked etc.details on your decor blocks. These mismatched blocks would act like banners, not being separate blocks and not appearing in the creative inventory. These patterns could possibly carry chiselled block designs, but that might take away the uniqueness.
These features would help take interior design to another level, and give builders many more options.
