Minecraft is not lacking in content. There are more than enough items, so I think that for the next update we need to step back and polish the world generation. Almost all the biomes seem the same, and usually are small, flat, and dull. It's one thing that we've never really seen change. If we saw a refresh In the worlds and embraced the fantasy feel, exploring could be fun again. The game shouldn't push realism and instead make more dramatic, vibrant, and colorful landscapes.
Potential Biomes:
Tropics: Warmer colored water; bright green grass; Small, grassy islands with large beaches and large cliffs.
Mountains: I know this exists, but current mountains are small and uninteresting. Imagine wide mountains thickly forested at the bottom, and with rocky plateaus at the top.
Icy Lakes: Frozen lakes aren't much, but a snowy oasis in the middle of a rocky mountain would be very pretty.
Why the generation needs to change:
The biggest problem: Everything is so small. If all the hills and valleys were wider and larger, it would be so much more dramatic. Instead of being able to easily build over any challenge in the environment, players should have to take time to hike up mountains and cross rolling valleys. The terrain has never been something to marvel at, and that needs to change.
