I don't know how rare amethyst geodes are or how rare they are supposed to be, but they should definitely be much rarer than mob dungeons. Since amethyst geodes are going to work like mob dungeons in that as soon as you find one you have amethyst forever, it's really important these things be really rare so that you have to do a considerable amount of exploring to find one. This way the demand for amethyst will be high since they are hard to find.
Another thing that will make amethyst geodes all the more sought after is making tuff and calcite both exclusive to amethyst geodes and craftable with amethyst shards. I don't hang around Twitter much, but I have seen a screenshot Lady Agnes posted to Twitter of a lush cave that has a patch of what appears to be calcite randomly generated into it. I don't think tuff and calcite should generate just anywhere in this way, otherwise they are no more valuable than any of the ite blocks. If they do, they should at the very least be significantly rarer than the ite blocks and in very small quantities.
If tuff and calcite were exclusive to geodes and craftable with amethyst shards, then it would make these blocks much more valuable than ite blocks because they are considerably more difficult to obtain, but it would also allow them to be farmable with the amethyst itself, which will not only increase the demand of amethyst, but also make these blocks accessible in quantities large enough to part of the build palette of any large scale build.
