What I liked about the sculk sensors in Minecraft Live was that it blended in with the cave until you triggered it. The cave had a creepy atmosphere that was quiet, empty, and deathly still. The sculk sensor breaks that impression when it trembles from the vibrations of your footsteps. I really liked how it made you feel like you were disturbing the place, because everything is completely static until you ruined it by barging in. It makes you aware at how fragile your situation is because its sensitive to your every move.
It felt a lot like trying to sneak through a dark room, and then you accidentally kick or step on something and it makes a racket and scares you, before it settles and everything is quiet again. But its different this time because if someone else didn't know about your presence before, they certainly know now.
In snapshot 20w49a, the sculk sensor has been changed so it looks like tentacles instead of growths. It changes the Deep Dark to feel like an alien planet where the cave is alive or something. Its also constantly moving, even while undisturbed. I don't like that as much because now theres a lot of motion thats not caused by your presence/actions.
Maybe it would fit better if it only happened while the Warden is provoked. Its kinda scary that way because then it'd be like you awoke something in the Deep Dark, causing all the sculk become restless and start writhing endlessly as you run for your life. It could be squirming in agony or excitement, who knows.
