There are already many things in the game that help you become a better swimmer. There are turtle shell helmets, conduits, dolphins, enchantments, and potions that help you breathe and mine underwater. But sometimes I dont care about becoming a better swimmer, I just want to mine and walk around underwater
Equipping a diving helmet lets you build mine underwater at normal speed without worrying about drowning, but at the expense of the ability to swim. Bubbles will also leave the player every few seconds. The main purpose of the diving helmet is to do construction work and walk around underwater, like how the copper diving helmet revolutionized underwater engineering and salvage in real life
The diving helmet isnt supposed to help you swim, its supposed to help you walk/sprint/jump on the ocean floor. It's crafted with 5 copper ingots and a glass pane in the middle. You can build and mine as if you're on land, but mobility is limited since moving through water is slower than on land. I think jump height should be 2-3 blocks underwater though. Because you can't swim away, you're a lot more vulnerable so you better be ready to stand and fight
Normally you have an oxygen bar, but when you equip the diving helmet, all your oxygen bar bubbles will float off the screen and replaced by a diving helmet icon. The diving helmet is your last line of defense so if you take it off, you'll start drowning immediately. If you leave it on you'll never have to worry about oxygen (until it breaks)
