The enchanting system in Minecraft is okay, though, it is far from perfect. And now that the new combat system is just around the corner, I think that a total overhaul to how enchantments work will improve the game a lot. This is the new system I propose:
Enchantment types.
Enchantments can be clasified based on two criterias: the first one is rarity (an enchantment can be either common or rare), and the second criteria is the type of the enchantment (offensive, deffensive, support etc). An item can hold a maximum of 3 enchants, out of which, only 1 can be rare. This means that it can either hold 3 common enchants or 2 common + 1 rare.
Enchantment table.
The enchantment table will be different. It is the only way to get common enchants. You put your item, lapis and xp in, then, your item will be instantly enchanted with a common enchant. The more xp you put in, the higher the chance of the enchant having a higher tier. We will also have a new item found in dungeon chests. When you put it in the enchantment table, you will be able to choose just the type of the enchant (offensive, deffensive etc).
Anvil.
The anvil will be used to put rare enchants on items, or, for upgrading rare enchants. Rare enchants will be the only enchants which can be stored in books. The only way to get them is from dungeon chests, villager trades etc. Combining two rare enchants of the same kind (and tier), will create the same enchant but with a higher tier.
What are your thoughts on the new system?
