Right now when shields get disabled, there is basically no visual indication whether they are disabled or not. It currently looks the exact same as not raising the shield. However, the difference between having your shield disabled vs not is too important for such little visual difference.
A solution would be to play an animation while a shield is disabled. With it, players don't need to guess whether or not their opponent's shield is disabled. In addition, it could make the gameplay look better for spectators.
As for the actual animation, a simple rapid arm shake would suffice. I imagine it as the recoil a player receives from a powerful axe strike (or something similar).
