Gold tools in Minecraft are essentially useless and aren't used for anything specific. There is one thing that could give them a lot more use and that is gold enchantments. The idea is that gold would have more of a magical capability and would house outrageous and powerful enchantments that would take inspiration from popular mods/datapacks.
Example 1: you could have a gold exclusive enchantment called "Timber" on your gold axe, and it would work like treecapitator where you would have the top part of a tree be immediately harvested. The catch being you would still take all the durability damage on your axe from each block, but it would make cutting down trees faster.
Example 2: Similar from the previous example, you would have a gold pickaxe with an enchantment called "Vain" and it would mine an entire vain of ore (as long as they're touching) from a single harvested ore. Once again, The catch is that you would still take all the durability damage on the tool but make the job of the tool quicker.
This would make players want to use gold tools in playthroughs. Gold would still be an inferior ore to use for tools because of the bad durability, but would reward them by having them do jobs that the tools do, faster.
