If I am not mistaken there is a limit of 7 levels of experience a player can drop upon death. I think that is unnecessary.
I would say make players always drop 50% of their experience regardlessly of how much they have. So if you have 1 level, you would drop half a level, if you have 60 levels, you would drop 30 levels.
I believe this would reduce the punishment and frustration for players that risk themselves more while still keeping that punishment quite high. But most importantly, it would give a new level of tension in multiplayer games, as the more levels you accumulate, the bigger the reward you put on your head for other players. This would encourage PvP and make the game more interesting overall, as stronger and more experienced players are worth more.
