So so far both Copper and the Smithing Table seem to have very few uses. I know the smithing table is necessary for netherite items but thats a single thing that its needed for. it should probably have some more uses. same with how copper is only used for neat looking blocks and avoiding lightning. So I came up with something that I really think would be an amazing addition to the vanilla minecraft experience. I was thinking instead of adding a new "level" for the minecraft tools like netherite did we added more variety to the tools.
As an example of my idea, lets take the Stone Sword. as it is the stone sword is a pretty basic weapon. if your a minecraft adventure map maker, you don't have too many options for weapons to give your players. so what if you could combine a stone sword with another type of stone with a smithing table I.E. Diorite, Granite, Andesite, Endstone, Blackstone and Netherrack? what I propose is that when you do this, the tools gain slightly different stats. like an andesite sword would sacrifice a bit of damage for more knockback, a granite sword could sacrifice knockback for speed, blackstone would get rid of speed for more durability, etc. this could add much more variety and wouldn't get in the way of minecraft's simplicity since one could easily play the game and never interact with this mechanic at all, and just makes someones playthrough more customizable. I think copper should be a variant for iron tools just like how diorite is one for stone.
