If Bedrock is the future platform of Minecraft, then it should have Backwards compatibility with Java edition for multiplayer. While some may have already suggested that crossplay be implemented, this suggestion specifically addresses the Bedrock platform such that little to no modification would be needed for the Java edition.
The community of Minecraft is split between two clients and there the decision between the two creates confusion. This change would make it so that the Java edition would no longer need to be available as a standalone product, but rather continue existence as an optional download for people who have already purchased The Complete Game of Minecraft.
Currently it is necessary to keep Java edition available for sale to people who wish to play with their friends who already have Java.
