Currently, Tridents are quite limited for non-ocean combat, and the fun enchantments like Riptide and Channeling are available in rare (rain) and rarer even (thunderstorm) situations.
Chaining would allow a Trident to seek out the next closest hostile mob (in a radius) after it hits the first one, and then move to the second mob and hit it.
Increasing Chaining levels would increase the number of mobs the Trident attacks before returning to the user. (depending on whether they have loyalty or not)
This is balanced by the disadvantage of the Trident being away from the user while the chaining occurs.
Chaining and Channeling during a thunderstorm would truly be a spectacle to watch, and this enchantment would make the Trident a truly viable counterpart to a sword, instead of a novelty item.
