lightning rod inside houses!

So the lightning rod is a beautiful item that can be used in decoration in a lot of ways! but what about its function then? what if you use them as decorative blocks in your house, but then a lightning trys to hit one? immedeatly the house will start to catch on fire! therefor i would reccomend the lightning rod loose its ability to atract lightning as long as it is placed somewhere under a block, that means, in houses, caves, ect. if its not possible to test for every single block above it, then how about this: the rod works, as long as there is no block 30 blocks above it or lower

  Wait, how would you be able to use the lighting rod if you can't have anything 30 blocks below it? It'd be useless to put on a house then.
