Now, this isn't a water car (I know you hate vehicles, Mojang) but it would fit fine with copper being added. As you know, there is the furnace minecart which runs on coal...and is sorta useless after that. However, this boat would function slightly different. First, you would craft it like a normal boat, with 5 copper, then you would place a furnace in the center, and then you have your product. Now, when it comes to sailing, it would have unique traits to the boat world. For one, it would consume coal while used. I can't test it myself (not a modder) but I would assume it would be a reasonable time between coal-guzzling and coal-coasting. When powered with coal, the boat would move 1.5x-2x the speed of a normal boat, thus making later-game exploration easier (like for the end portal) However, when it runs out of coal, it would move 3x slower than a normal boat, making it near-useless. I imagine it would have some sort of storage system so you wouldn't have to look behind you every 2 minutes.
