Placing lightning rods in water increases their radius

First of all, lightning rods will have to be water-loggable for this suggestion to work.

When placed in water, the rod's radius will increase, as though the water is attracting the lightning (since water is conductive, of course).

  I like this idea, but this should ONLY work in seawater as pure water is a terrible conductor. Maybe you can use a bucket to collect seawater.
