I really like this idea. It reminds me of the recipes to create andesite, granite, and diorite from cobblestone and quartz; those recipes are great because they provide an alternative, albeit expensive way to craft blocks that some players may not have easy access to, if their world was created before the Bountiful Update (1.8). This suggestion is quite similar in that regard.

One nice thing about using amethyst in the recipes is that it forces players to find at least one geode before they can craft the blocks. That way, the blocks are still somewhat exclusive to the geode, but once you find one, it's possible (albeit expensive) to get as many of those blocks as you want through farming the crystals that grow there.

I imagine that calcite and tuff will both end up being quite popular in some building styles, and having them be craftable with amethyst would give a big reason to keep returning to the geodes to farm crystals.

It's actually quite common for tuff to form with andesite in it, so maybe that would be a better fit geologically than regular stone.

Tuff is a volcanic rock. It's not made of amethyst.

calcite is not white amethyst, calcite is a carbonate mineral, amethyst is a quartz, silicon mineral. tuff is volcanic ash.

I think the calcite recipe should be quartz and diorite as the texture doesn't show any amethyst if that makes sense?

Personally, I would prefer a recipe for calcite involving nether quartz and diorite.

The recipe for Calcite should be block of coal and bone blocks, because of the carbon and calcium that the coal and bones have a lot. And calcite is basically calcium carbonate.

An alternative is to use nautilus shells instead (that have calcium carbonate in the form of Aragonite).
