With the new bastion remnants in the Nether, I think it would be great to have tower and castle remnants in the overworld.
These structures could feature chests, throne rooms, mob spawner rooms and perhaps even underground labyrinths guarding rare treasures.
The buildings themselves generate in several biomes, though most commonly in plains. And they could even contain a new mob such as bandits who have taken over the ruins, using them as their camp, or Ghostly Soldiers, fallen warriors of ancient times.
The structures could be made of either cobblestone or stone bricks or something else entirely, and could even have rare banners found only on those structures, like the rare items in bastions.
These remnants would be an exciting new generated structure in the overworld, and would be a great find for explorers.

This is a concept image I created for one of the treasures found in the chests in the structure, most likely this would be a very rare find from one of the labyrinth chests, it is a crown. It could either be melted down into gold, or perhaps worn, giving you immunity against the Ghostly Soldiers, for they are loyal to the crown.
This design is jewel-encrusted, but when melted down it only gives you a few gold ingots (probably two or three), or perhaps this could add a new gemstone which can be extracted and then you can melt the crown into gold.
