Change Leaf Breaking Mechanics

Sometimes it is really frustrating when farming a certain tree type and there is another tree of a different type next to the broken one. Unfortunately the leaves will not break most of the time since it detects logs nearby by any type. Can the leave breaking mechanics be changed to separate tree types? I dont want to destroy leaves by hand when there could be such a good mechanic to be made use of.

    Could be used as compact red stone wiring, considering that a line of leaves being apart from a log causes an observer signal. This would mean that these liens of leaves could be placed next to each other.
