My idea is that dogs could be trained to sniff for ores, loot, buried ruins, and fossils, and therefore make it easier to find resources and items as well as the new archaeology sites.
My idea for how the dogs could be trained is this:
Drop a food item and an item you want the dog to search for in front of the dog. each time you do this, the dog eats the food and there is a chance of the dog learning the item's scent, and the chance is more likely the less rare the item is and the more valuable the food given is. (this way, you need to spend food resources to get the reward of being able to find other resources.)
however, training a dog won't make it look for a target forever, and you will need to reward the dog with food items within a certain time of it finding something for you, or a counter will increment, and when the counter reaches a certain level (probably dependent on difficulty settings) it will unlearn the scent.
In addition, a clicker item should be added, so that you can tell the dog when to search for an item. (that way you won't get the unfair benefit of the dog always searching for an item, and you won't need to worry about not having food to reward the dog for finding something.) this clicker item could also be a way of getting the attention of a warden, and although I don't know what you would want to do that for, you all know that if a clicker got added, someone would find an absurdly powerful use for it.
